As 3D printing continues to become more accessible to more people, it’s getting easier for cosplayers to use the technology to create detailed replicas of masks, props, and even full sets of armor. Using 3D printing allows for more precision — it was key to creating a perfect face shell for Yuri Schuurkes’s Spider-Man ensemble. The costume designer built a Spider-Man suit from scratc,h but when he was stumped by making the mask, he reached out to a professional 3D designer. The designer helped Schuurkes and the cosplayer spent six months designing the shell. According to 3DPrint.com:

The shell of the mask is one piece, with additional eye frames which were designed separately. They are magnetically locked into the face shell with fabric from the overall costume in between. This provides for a very comfortable fit for the person who is wearing it, and also allows for the eye plates to be taken out whenever necessary.”
