Now that an individual can get their genome sequenced for around $1,000 it creates a new opportunity for looking at the DNA of large groups. The National Health Service in the UK is looking to sequences 100,000 genomes in order to help find more effective health treatments. They are particularly interested in rare diseases and cancer.
