Jetzt is an open source speed-reader extension for the Google Chrome Browser. It helps most readers move from a typical reading speed of 250 words per minute to speeds up to 650 WPM. Jetzt makes use of a technique called Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) which allows the reader to read a single word at a time in a fixed location avoiding any unnecessary eye tracking.

This extension is capable of  helping readers reach their maximum reading rate. People going up to 650 WPM have been documented to experience  a 20% reduced comprehension. I’ve enjoyed reading news sites at 650 WPM, but have found that 450 WPM is really easy to keep up with.

There are some fun applications for this type of reader. It creates new opportunities for reading large documents on tiny OLED displays, watch screens and heads up displays.
