Do you suffer from insomnia? Looking to brighten up those dark winter mornings? Travel much? Re-Timer claims to be able to help people adjust their circadian rhythm by strapping a 500nm / 500 lux UV free green-blue spectrum of light at a specific angle below the eyes.

Unlike traditional light therapy devices re-timer fits directly on your face like a large pair of sunglasses. It is large enough to fit over a pair of standard glasses for those who wear them. Generally re-timer prescribes 30-60 minutes each morning of wearing the device upon waking up. They also claim to be helpful for midday energy boosts and getting to bed at a desired time.

The two features I appreciate most about the re-timer is that they integrated fitbit sleep data and offer a free “Sleep Calculator“.

Re-Timer’s Research:

The experimental groups showed significant melatonin suppression during light stimulation, with the blue-green LEDs producing the greatest (70%) suppression.

The blue light group showed a significant 2.53-h advance of dim light melatonin onset.

The shorter wavelengths of 470, 497, and 525 nm showed the greatest melatonin suppression – 65% to 81%.

An average advance of 2 hours and 30 minutes was achieved across the sample (n = 24).
