As this year comes to a close it sure is fun to review all that exercise data that I’ve saved up. VeloViewer is a friendly site that sucks all of your Strava (exercise) data and spits out detailed charts, graphs and infographics for a fresh view on how things went this year. I love the infographics and find the mouse over popup data on the year to year charts to be invaluable. My only issue with Veloviewer is that they do not include swim data across all data views.

Comparing my own stats from 2016 all the way back to 2011 I noticed these three changes:

  • Every year I exercise more (duration, distance and elevation gain). This year was 350 hours, > 2,000 miles and  150,000′ of elevation gain.
  • In 2016 I managed to exercise and record the events on 273 out of 365 days.
  • My average heart rate has dropped by almost 11%. This was intentional as I wanted to stay in a low effort endurance fat burning mode (MAF) to handle longer runs. I believe this has also helped me avoid injury.
  • A reasonable goal for me in 2017 would be to average more than one hour a day of exercise.
