John Rogers has been producing incredible bioelectronics for nearly a decade. He and his teams are solving the most critical issues for wearables by focusing on biomaterials that are soft, flexible and self powered. These devices are as easy to wear as a band-aid. The most recent project he has been involved with is a tiny biosensor that detects water loss, lactate, creatinine, glucose, pH and chloride all through non-invasive sweat analysis.

While sweat is a popular area of research this project goes further by providing a colorized human readable display directly on the patch. Also included is a NFC interface for smart phones along with a image processing optionĀ to determine chemical concentrations.

When do we get our own fancy sweat patches? Sooner than you might think. These patches have already been tested with human trials in a realĀ 106 mile cycling event.
