Thomas Deuel has a new take on biofeedback. He is using a combination of an EEG and a synthesized piano to assist with neurological based motor diseases. A device that consists of an EEG with audio output is known as an encephalophone and dates back as far as 1929. You have probably heard of BCI (Brain Computer Interface), but this has the additional layer of a BCMI (Brain Computer Music Interface). This project is a unique mash up of electronics, performance art, biohacking, music and therapy. Thomas has a patent with extensive details on the contraption including Matlab and MAX/MSP code.
