The Pomodoro Technique has been around for over thirty years. It was invented by an Italian college student who owned a tomato shaped kitchen timer. The concept is to pick a task, start a 25 minute timer, work non-stop (ignoring interruptions) and then take a 5 minute break. The idea is that you are training your brain to focus and can push through the usual procrastinations. The clicking noise of the timer is key to keep focus on the task.

Implementing a 25 minute timer is pretty straight forward so there are a plethora of software and even some DIY hardware options. My own preference is to use a timer on my smart watch as keeping my phone around creates potential distractions.
