Athletic performance monitoring is changing. The trend is moving away from traditional chest straps wirelessly chatting with smart phones. Here are three companies that are making versatile untethered monitoring solutions. These are cutting edge research oriented so expect some sticker shock.

Hexoskin

hexoskin

Hexoskin raised over $125k on their Indiegogo campaign. Their entry price for a smart shirt that records heart rate, breathing and movement is the most reasonable at $300. This buys you one smart shirt and one device. Hexoskin has done nice things by opening their API and providing a SDK. It is compatible with many popular running apps and some smart watches for a display. Hexoskin will save up to 150 hours of data without any other devices present.

Bioharness 3BioHarness 3

The BioHarness 3 consists of three different types of shirts with drop in BioModule options. Two are loose-fit and then there is the rather sexy compression shirt. This product is geared for all sectors sports, wellness, defense and wellness. The devtools are more sophisticated and closed off than those of the Hexoskin. Logs and stores up to 20 days of data.

BioStamp Research Connectbiostamprc-spec

BioStamp RC is available now, but this is really geared to research with prices ranging from $950 – $12,000 to get going. However, if price is not an issue this product is very low profile and designed to be placed all over the body for various types of measurement. The investigator application and portal look ideal for athletic, medical and wellness research. Includes 32MB of storage so again does not need to be paired for data logging.
