Apple’s iOS Health App is collecting data from others apps, smart watches and bluetooth enabled hardware. I wanted to see how I was doing on daily steps and hours of sleep. When I tried to view the data through the Apple Health App and MisFit App things went downhill fast. The Apps were limited to Day/Week/Month/Year with no other time adjustments. The raw data tended towards being overly detailed. There is a better way to view your health data.

My Setup:

  • Pebble Watch – Running MisFit App (records steps/sleep)
  • iPhone 6s – Daily sync Pebble Watch –> Pebble App –> Misfit App

A Better App for Manipulating Apple Health Data:

HealthExport ($1.99) is currently my favorite app for working with subsets of Apple Health Data. You pick your date range, time interval and health category and it sends an easy to work with CSV file. In seconds I had a custom graph of my sleep and steps plus the CSV files were sent directly to my google drive.

There are two other apps which are which are free, but I’ve found to be not that functional. HipBone and QS Access (Quantified Self) have the right idea, but are far too limited to be utilized.

Other Options:

The Health App itself offers an export option which typically produces a large XML file of all your data that is ZIP’d. This is a great file to upload to other sites or use parsing tools against. We will dive deeper into using the XML file in another post.
