Periscope Hits 200 Million Broadcasts, Number Doubles in 3 Months | Variety.

Twitter-owned social live streaming service Periscope celebrated its first birthday Monday by revealing a major usage milestone: Periscope has been used for more that 200 million broadcasts since its launch in March 2015. Periscope users also watch around 110 years (or close to 1 million hours) of live streams every single day, according to the company.

From our experience, YouTube live has the most live viewers, with the added benefit of archiving and publishing right away. Twitch is gaining and the tools/quality is catching up to YouTube – Twitch for example has chat archives which we’ve wanted for YouTube for awhile. For mobile, Meerkat has more views than Periscope, but word is Meerkat is going to stop live streaming. That leaves Periscope, which is Twitter, on average maybe 200+ views depending on what we’re broadcasting and when.

For a maker business, there’s something interesting and special every week that can be live, the challenge is to think about what it is, why and how to consistently deliver it.
