Greetings biohackers, this is a pretty cool site called “DOUBLE BLINDED – The Self-Experimentation Platform”. This is one the first self-monitoring and health logging for supplements we’ve seen, which is basically an unregulated gamble. If this works out, at least it might be possible to get data from a wide variety of people and that could be a selling point to consider if published. The Quantified Self movement is missing data sets everyone can compare, here’s what they’re doing…

Why guess which supplements work when you can be certain? Try a double-blinded experiment on yourself to see how effective your supplements are – plus, see interactive charts demonstrating their effectiveness on you. Everyone is different, figure out what works for you.

How does it work?<.b>
We are organizing our first ever group double-blinded study, available beginning December 1st, 2015 and lasting 28 days. We will send you a one month kit to trial L-Theanine. You will receive four pill organizers, one for each week of the month. Each week may be either placebo or 200mg of L-Theanine and you will not know which it is. At the end of each day you will fill out a short survey with a few questions evaluating the effects of the pills. At the end of the 28 days you will see your results – including charts comparing your evaluations of actual L-Theanine to placebo - along with the combined anonymized results of the group. You do not have to start exactly on December 1st – just start as soon as you receive your kit in the mail.

L-Theanine Experiment (1 Month) — Double Blinded.

At the end of the month you will be able to see which week was placebo and which was L-Theanine and find out if you guessed correctly. We will show you your results with comparisons between the placebo and L-Theanine. Finally, we will show you the aggregate results of everyone who has completed the experiment and show you how your results stacked up.

Why this one?

“L-Theanine is a relaxing and non-dietary amino acid found pretty much exclusively in teas from Camellia sinensis (alongside Green Tea Catechins and Caffeine) and is known to promote relaxation without sedation. It appears to be effective at this as well as reducing stress at standard dosages.”

Would be good to see the scrubbed data on Github or somewhere to poke at as well.
