Buy a stake in Raspberry Pi add-on firm – Electronics Weekly.

The Sheffield-based company is raising the money to expand its business into the rest of Europe. Pimoroni manufacturers more than 40 mini-PC accessories in-house in Sheffield and sells its products through its online shop along with products sourced from other DIY electronics companies around the world. It is a large UK seller of products from New York-based electronics firm, Adafruit.

From a seed investment of £15,000 from friends and family, the firm’s grown 80% year-on-year to achieve a turnover of more than £1.5m.

With respect to Pibow sales the majority have been to our wholesale customers so don’t reflect full retail price (£10.79 ex VAT for Pibow / £7.08 ex VAT for Pibow Coupe) in our revenue figures. We offer our distributors 35-40% margin on our products:

Here’s the breakdown of our Pibow sales channels:
– Pibow only direct sales: 28,369
– Pibow (kitted into a starter kit or with a Pi) direct sales: 7,647
– Wholesale: 90,359
Our top five big hitters for direct sales (http://shop.pimoroni.com) this past year have been (figures are gross sales):
– Raspberry Pi (B+ then 2) with Pibow Case: £152k
– Raspberry Pi (B+ then 2) Starter Kit: £116k
– Raspberry Pi 7″ Touchscreen Display with Frame (launched start of September ’15): £35k
– Picade (launched end of July ’15): £26k
– Pibow: £30k
We’re seeing great results from Picade – our initial run of 250 units sold out in a month and expect it will do well in the run up to Christmas.
Other notable products (sales for past 3 months – Aug ’15 thru Oct ’15):
– Raspberry Pi Official Display Frame (launched Sep ’15) – sold 5,300pcs
– Piano HAT (launched Jul ’15) – sold 495pcs
– Explorer HAT (launched Feb ’15) – sold 454pcs
– Display-O-Tron HAT (launched Oct ’14) – sold 383pcs
– Unicorn HAT (launched Oct ’14) – sold 315pcs

Apologies for these figures being past three months only. We moved to a new wholesale order system in July so the data is fragmented before then. I’ll look at pulling in the information from historical invoices.
